Enjoy the pleasure and satisfaction of carving your own wooden ware. I stock a quantity of Minnesota hard wood and fruit wood that has been shaped from carefully selected crooks or crotches to make a strong and durable spoon or utensil. They are ready for knife work. Wooden ware is generally carved "green" or freshly cut and not allowed to dry out. Therefore, I keep it wrapped in plastic and frozen until it is shipped to you. On arrival, rinse or soak in water and refreeze if you are not carving right away. I keep my wood soaking in a pan of fresh water between carving sessions until the spoon is done.
If you need spoon carving knives, you will find no better quality than those forged by Del Stubbs at www.pinewoodforge.com Check out Del's web site for all kinds of interesting educational material, supplies, information, and links. It is truly a magic door into the wonderful world of wood carving, particularly in the Scandinavian spoon and figure carving traditions.
The woods listed here are the ones I most commonly have in stock: Apple, apricot, alder, box elder, buckthorn, cherry, lilac, plum, juneberry. Often I can obtain other wood for you on request. Email with questions and for prices. When ordering please list acceptable substitutes when appropriate. Happy carving.
