Spoons of one of my favorite carving woods - buckthorn!
Buckthorn!
For those of you who have not been introduced to the infamous buckthorn, this page is dedicated to not only making you aware of the destruction it is doing in our parks and native habitats, but also to showing its many uses.  The wood is beautiful and sometimes referred to by those who use it as the "Minnesota Rosewood".

So do your parks and native habitats a favor - help me carve all that invasive Buckthorn into beautiful spoons.  It is strong and durable and makes elegant wooden ware.  I have Buckthorn carving blanks available or click on this link  (Buckthorn identification) if you want to cut your own.  Send me a picture of something you've made of Buckthorn and I will try to post it here.  Some of the uses I have heard of so far are:  Spoons and wooden ware, walking sticks, wooden pens, small boxes, clocks, bowls, tops and baskets.
